Change of Address(es)

The past few months have been an absolute blur. Not only did I experience a change of address, but so did my mom. And I couldn’t begin to tell you how many emotions I experienced in the process…and still am! Sandwiched in between my husband and I finding the right place to spend our next chapter and letting go of the place we’ve called home for the past twenty-five years was the death of my mom. Though her passing was not completely unexpected, I quickly found out there is simply no way to prepare for such an event. Loss is loss, no matter the age, and the loss of a mother is like no other.

A Forever Home

The truth is that I haven’t lost my mom. I know where she is.  She’s just not here with me any longer. That’s the hard part! John 3:16 promises eternal life for all those who place their faith in Jesus. Read these words of comfort, hope, and assurance Jesus gave His disciples shortly before He was crucified:

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

‭‭ John‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus was about to leave the disciples, but it was ultimately for their good. He left to prepare their eternal home and promised to return for them. Their job was to trust Him fully.

Because my mom did just that, I can find comfort amid the heartache, knowing she is now dwelling with God for eternity.

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
‭‭ 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Perfect Home

By faith in Jesus, we need not fear a change of address. In fact, the mere thought should bring a smile to our face.

He will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain. These things of the past are gone forever.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21‬:‭4‬ ‭CEV‬‬

I look forward to joining my mom at her new address at just the right time. Until then, I’ll continue adjusting to my current change of address.
